            Like father. Like son.

Feliberto S. Oliveros III, son of former City Mayor Feliberto R. Oliveros of Puerto Princesa won the enviable position of Student Government (SG) president over his closest rival Karen Joy L. Valencia, during the SGO elections held  July 29, 1999.

Oliveros, standard bearer of Alliance of Concerned and Tactful Students (ACTS) Party received his mandate from the students after trouncing academic scholar Karen Joy L. Valencia with a landslide victory of 1,947 votes over Sikap-SRP presidential candidate Valencia’s 1,488 votes. Feli Boy as he is fondly called by colleagues and friends is in his junior year in Bachelor of Business Administration major  in   Economics.

His political charm which he must have inherited from his ancestors, coming from a family of politicians, coupled with his approachable, boy- next-door personality, it is no wonder that the PSUans gave their full support to his candidacy.

Oliveros’ running mate, Norman S. Ong,  defeated the 1998 SG Vice-President Rambie Katrina B. Lim. Ong garnered 2,285 votes more than  half of Lim’s at only 881 votes.

At the legislative body, Dennis A. Macolor topped the senatorial position. Along with him on the list of the senators are Cindy T. Azarraga (Acts), Jerico M. Padrones (Sikap), Pompeyo R. Besaga (Acts), Teddy G. Aquino Jr. (Acts), Paul Theilard V. Senorin (Acts), Renato O. Villon (Acts), Douglas A. Macanas (Acts), Eric N. Quillip (Sikap), Deo Fedencio Aguila III (Acts), Ellen Venus R.              In a related development, Angelito Nenito M. Leonor was declared Governor of College of Business and Accountancy (CBA)  beating Elwood P. Quiamco, 372-182 votes. Gilbert C. Macola, the Vice-Governor got 271 votes that turned his opponent Arnold R. Lorenzo down with 244 votes.anwhile, in the executive department, Michelle C. de Vera of Acts Party won the position of  SG Secretary with 1,261 votes versus his contender, Maileen C. Cacananta (Sikap),  1, 174 votes. Treasurer Phebe C. Resuma (Acts) down Maria Isabel E. Exevea (Sikap) with 1,425  vs 1,017 votes for the latter.  SG 1998 Senator Glynnis T. Socrates (Acts) overcome Kim Claudine C. Diao (Sikap) with 1,364 vs 1,155 votes. Another 1998 SG Senator, Grealdine R. Besaga who ran unopposed, grabbed the position of Public Relation Officer. Lea B. Garcellan (Sikap) 1,089 votes beat Llewelyn Anne Venturillo (Acts), 915 votes.

Orlando O. Estoya, senior Political Science student of the College of Arts and Humanities garnered 257 votes over his lady opponent for the Governatorial chair, Judy Ann Valino who got 197 votes. Contrary to what the CAH students expected, Estoya’s running mate, Irene D. Valones lost the election to Rowel M. Magarce who comfortably  holds the position of Vice-Governor.

In the College of Engineering , Architecture and Technology (CEAT), Danilo L. Bonda, a Technology student   took the seat of Governor with a slim margin of 331 votes against his opponent Cheryl A. Caabay  with 326 votes . Rey Mortel is Bonda’s Vice-Governor with 284 votes over  his rival Vivian S. Pepito’s 253 votes.

Independent governatorial candidate Jimmy M. Donton ran unopposed in the College of Education (CED). He enjoyed a big victory even before and during the election. He got 528 votes. Christine Gloria A. Negosa who won over Rosally A. de la Cruz at 416 votes as against de la Cruz’ 258 votes, was proclaimed  CED Vice-Governor.

Unopposed Sikap-SRP Coalition College of Sciences (CS) Governor Joeneffer Agdeppa and his Vice-Governor Ariel Valones celebrated their early victory together with their lower council officers  from the start of the campaign period until the day of the election. The Acts Party failed to match their party line-up because of time constraints.

All the winning candidates in the recently held SGO elections were proclaimed on August 4,1999 at the  PSU gymnasium by the University Commission on Student’s Election (COMSELEC) Chairperson Mr. Antonino V. Moragriega  together with the COMSELEC members  Via Angela T. de Guzman, Muhammad Daloma, Loida Aguilar, Rey Castro, Esobel O. Belen and Reginald Catarig.

University  President Dr. Teresita L. Salva inducted  the new SGO officers to office on the same day. At the later part of the program, pandemonium broke loose when the Dean of Student Affairs Eliseo T. Aglibut  announced that the office of the university president has approved  the request that classes be suspended that  day. Thus the university community danced the day away to the accompaniment of the live bands led by some PSUans and other guests. The students indeed had a day. It was the first day-long proclamation and induction celebration that ever happened in PSU. And  the students did have a wonderful time.
